Hello Ruffers! Dogs suffer from various diseases, however, there are some that are the most common and that generally, are the main cause of death in dogs. Next, we will show you the 5 main diseases that affect dogs: 

  • Otitis or ear infection

This infection in the ear can appear to any dog that has had contact with water or humidity, however, the most susceptible breeds are those that have big ears like the cocker spaniel. 

  • Distemper

It is a disease that can be prevented by means of a vaccine. It is highly contagious and can be deadly. It is very difficult to diagnose since it has thousands of symptoms such as fever, runny nose, cough, sneezing, diarrhea, vomiting, lack of appetite, among others.

  • Scabies

It is a disease in the skin, which can even occur in humans. Scabies is caused by microscopic parasites called mites, which pierce the skin layer called the dermis, causing infection.

  • Cystitis

The cause of this disease is bacteria that cause inflammation of the bladder, diabetes or stones in the bladder. Some of the symptoms are hyperactivity, discomfort or pain when urinating, and effort to urinate.

  • Osteoarthritis

It is known as the deformation and inflammation of the joints, mainly those of the elbow and the hip. Generally, this disease is more frequent in older dogs, and in breeds such as the Doberman and the German Shepherd.
